Marine & Industrial Turbochargers

Turbochargers play an important role in the performance and efficiency of modern diesel and gas engines. By using energy from the exhaust gas to compress the incoming air, they increase the amount of air available for combustion, helping the engine deliver higher power output while operating efficiently.

Norsk Offshore supplies turbochargers, spare parts and replacement components for marine, offshore, power generation and industrial engine applications. We support both current and older installations, helping customers identify the correct parts for planned maintenance, major overhauls and urgent operational requirements.

Marine Turbocharger Applications

Marine turbochargers are widely used on main propulsion and auxiliary engines aboard commercial vessels, offshore support vessels and other marine installations. Their reliable operation is essential for maintaining engine efficiency, power output and vessel availability.

  • Main Propulsion Engines
  • Auxiliary Engines and Generator Sets
  • Commercial and Merchant Vessels
  • Offshore Support Vessels
  • Tankers, Bulk Carriers and Container Vessels
  • Workboats, Tugs and Specialised Marine Craft

Offshore & Industrial Applications

Turbochargers are also widely used on land-based and offshore diesel and gas engines. Typical applications include power generation, oil and gas installations, stationary engine packages and other heavy-duty duties where reliable engine performance and operating efficiency are essential.

  • Power Generation and Standby Generator Sets
  • Offshore Oil and Gas Installations
  • Industrial Diesel and Gas Engines
  • Combined Heat and Power Applications
  • Mechanical-Drive Engine Packages
  • Other Heavy-Duty Stationary Engine Applications

Turbocharger Technology & Applications

How a Turbocharger Works

A turbocharger uses energy from the engine's exhaust gas to drive a turbine wheel. The turbine and compressor wheels are connected by a common shaft. As the turbine rotates, the compressor draws in fresh air, compresses it and delivers it to the engine. The increased air density provides more oxygen for combustion, helping the engine produce greater power while making effective use of the available fuel.

Correct matching between the turbocharger and the engine is essential for reliable performance. The condition of the rotor assembly, bearings, seals, nozzle components and air and gas passages can directly influence boost pressure, exhaust temperature, fuel efficiency and overall engine reliability.

Turbocharger Types & Engine Performance Solutions

Turbocharger design varies according to engine type, size and operating duty. Installations may use radial-flow or axial-flow turbines, single-stage or multi-stage arrangements and other application-specific configurations. When replacement parts are required, accurate identification of the installed make, model and specification is essential.

  • Radial Turbochargers
  • Axial Turbochargers
  • Single-Stage Turbocharging
  • Two-Stage and High-Pressure-Ratio Turbocharging
  • Turbochargers for Two-Stroke and Four-Stroke Engines
  • Turbochargers for Diesel and Gas Engine Applications
